Our story, though fairly simple and not very glamorous, is filled with some hard work and many, many blessings.
This adventure began just after my fortieth birthday. My wonderful husband, Paul, encouraged me to pursue an interest in pottery that had started in high school. Once my hands were back in clay, I was driven to learn more and improve my skills. I continued ceramics classes for several years at our local community college. I thank Tom Clarkson and the Piedmont Virginia Community College ceramics program for a great learning opportunity.
When Paul and I felt mentally and financially able, I left my 20-year florist career, and began working for a very successful potter, Peggy Fasullo. Peggy gave me very valuable experience in production pottery, marketing, and the ins and outs of retail craft shows. She was also a wise and encouraging friend at a crazy, scary time.
At the same time, Paul and I were busy building a small studio in the basement of our 1847 farmhouse. I continued to make pots in our cramped basement studio for several years. In 2006, we took a huge step and sold our old farmhouse. We decided to build a smaller house and larger separate studio... we finally got our priorities straight!
After a hectic year of planning, building and moving, I am now happily back to work in a wonderful, sunny space. There is much energy and excitement in the air. I am deeply grateful and thank God for all these wonderful gifts.
